Shaft Horsepower Meter & Shaft Thrust Load Meter
The shaft horsepower meter developed by Shoyo Engineering consists of a detection ring mounted on the intermediate shaft, an electromagnetic induction unit that supplies power to vibrate the metal membrane of the horsepower sensor and transmit and receive the sensor signal, and a data processing/display unit that calculates and displays horsepower and torque based on the rotational signal and sensor frequency signal transmitted from the detection unit.
This shaft horsepower meter can also be installed on ships already in service. In such cases, installation at a port of call is also supported.
The shaft thrust load meter measures the axial (longitudinal) strain caused by the thrust from the propeller.
By combining this measurement with the torque obtained from the shaft horsepower meter, it becomes possible to accurately grasp propulsion performance. When there is a change in propulsion performance, it can be assessed whether the cause lies in increased hull resistance or decreased propeller efficiency.
By installing both the shaft horsepower meter and shaft thrust load meter, it becomes possible to determine the optimal timing for maintenance. This not only helps reduce maintenance costs but also enables continuous monitoring of propeller efficiency, contributing to improved fuel efficiency and enhanced operational safety.
