SUSTAINABILITY Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Nakashima Propeller, we are continuously engaged in sustainability
initiatives that address various environmental issues, social contributions,
and improvements to the working environment.

ADDRESSING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES Our Efforts Toward Environmental Challenges

ADDRESSING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES 01

Solar Panels

In an effort to reduce environmental impact, we introduced an on-site solar power generation PPA service in 2022. A 355kW solar panel system was installed on the roof of our headquarters factory, covering approximately 9% of the facility's annual electricity consumption with renewable energy. This initiative contributes to CO₂ emissions reduction and promotes energy “visualization,” helping to raise environmental awareness among our employees.

ADDRESSING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES 02

CO₂ Reduction Through Propeller Manufacturing

To make effective use of limited resources, we promote the reuse of materials required for propeller manufacturing. Copper, a non-renewable resource, is recovered and refined for use in new products. In addition, the sand used to create molds for propeller casting is treated for repeated use, thereby reducing waste. By utilizing resources efficiently, we aim to minimize environmental impact and achieve sustainable manufacturing practices.

ADDRESSING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES 03

Asahigawasou Cleanup

As part of our commitment to contributing to the local community, our group conducts volunteer cleanup activities by employees twice a year. For example, the cleanup activities at Asahigawasou are carried out to beautify the facility’s environment and support the comfortable daily lives of its residents. Each employee actively participates with a sense of responsibility as a member of the community, helping to strengthen our ties with local society.

CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY Social Contribution Activities

CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY 01

Donations to Children's Welfare Facilities

Our group of six companies, including our own, has been continuously donating daily necessities to the Okayama Seien Children’s Home in Okayama City as part of our social contribution activities. Since 2012, we have abolished gift exchanges among employees for events such as Valentine’s Day and instead encouraged donations to support this initiative. We aim to support the lives of children living in the facility by giving shape to the thoughts and goodwill of our employees.

CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY 02

Exhibition at the Harbor Festival

We participate in the “Harbor Festival” held every year in Tamashima, Kurashiki City, and display actual propellers. This initiative aims to showcase our technology and manufacturing excellence to local residents while also providing children—the future generation—with an opportunity to become interested in the maritime and manufacturing industries.

CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY 03

Firefighting Training

To maintain a safe and sustainable workplace, we are working to strengthen disaster preparedness training. Every year, young employees participate in the Firefighting Skills Training Competition in Okayama City to improve firefighting techniques and raise awareness of disaster prevention. We also conduct regular fire extinguisher training so that employees are well-prepared to respond promptly and appropriately in emergencies.

CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY 04

Blood Donation

As part of our social contribution efforts, we promote blood donation by employees. We regularly conduct in-house blood donation drives and create an environment where employees can easily participate. By working together, each employee helps ensure a stable supply of blood, supporting the lives of those in need of transfusions.

INITIATIVES FOR THE EMPLOYMENT ENVIRONMENT Creating a Comfortable Workplace

HEALTH AND PRODUCTIVITY MANAGEMENT 01

Health Management

We are committed to health management with the goal of creating a workplace where each employee can be physically and mentally healthy and perform at their best. We implement various measures such as regular health checkups, in-house events to encourage physical activity, and mental health support. By establishing a safe and secure working environment, we aim to enhance productivity and achieve sustainable corporate growth. We have been certified as a “Health and Productivity Management Outstanding Organization (Large Corporation Category)” for six consecutive years under the program by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Nippon Kenko Kaigi.

HEALTH AND PRODUCTIVITY MANAGEMENT 02

5S Activities

We promote proactive improvement proposals and 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities company-wide to create a better work environment and improve production efficiency. Each employee reviews and eliminates waste in their work, organizing the workplace to ensure safety and efficiency. Continuous improvement also contributes to enhanced product quality.

OFFICE ENVIRONMENT

Improving the Office Environment

At Nakashima Propeller, we strive to create a workplace environment where every employee can work comfortably. We are gradually renovating our headquarters office, Nakashimada Building, and factory facilities to create safer and more comfortable workspaces. We have also introduced a free-address system and expanded refresh spaces to support more flexible working styles. We are continuously working to improve the environment so that employees of all positions and generations can work with peace of mind and fully demonstrate their abilities.
