The SCHOTTEL Pump-Jet is a German propulsion system developed and manufactured by SCHOTTEL. Nakashima imports and offers the product as the company’s agent in Japan.
The Pump-Jet is mounted on an opening on the bottom of a vessel’s hull. It generates propulsion force by sucking water in via the suction opening in the center bottom of the unit and spouting water out fast obliquely downward from three outlet nozzles. Operation is possible in shallow waters, for example, at a depth of 10 to 15 cm from the underside of the ship because there is no protruding part on the ship’s bottom. This robust and reliable propulsion system satisfies the strict testing criteria of the German and Swedish navies.

Maneuverability

Excellent maneuverability is provided because the direction of the propulsion force can be controlled over a full 360 degrees by changing the direction of the nozzle.

Safety

Because the suction power is small, foreign objects are rarely sucked in. Therefore, divers can work underwater safely even during operation.

Comfort

Lower noise and lower vibration operation compared to propellers offers comfort on vessels.

Shorter time to enter or leave port

When also used as a side thruster, the time spent entering or leaving port can be shortened because ballast adjustment is unnecessary even for vessels with great draft variation.
